In response to the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People implemented by the USCCB in 2002, the Diocese of Lexington strives to provide a safe environment for all children and vulnerable adults within our parishes, schools and diocesan apostolates. The Code of Conduct and on-going education is provided to clergy, employees, parents and children to raise awareness of warning signs that may indicate inappropriate behavior and abuse.
In addition to prevention education, the Diocese of Lexington stands ready to assist any victim of child sexual abuse by a cleric or lay employee by providing the necessary assistance for healing of mind, spirit and body.

Since on-site audits occur every three years, the SCYP thought it would be beneficial to the dioceses/eparchies to create a parish self assessment guide to help dioceses and eparchies determine to what extent their parishes and schools are implementing the diocesan/eparchial policies relating to the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People at the parish level. This self-assessment can be used by staff to determine if all diocesan/eparchial policies are being followed as well as help determine where there might be a need for more training in the implementation of the Charter.
Within parishes and schools, volunteers are recognized as a vibrant and necessary support to the ministries offered by each community. Volunteer participation brings added gifts and talents helping to the community to achieve its fullest potential.
As a representative of the Church, every volunteer who is in a position of trust with minors or vulnerable adults must fill out a Volunteer Application and present to their location. Upon approval of the application, the volunteer will be directed to register with Catholic Mutual Group’s on-line CMGconnect program.
The CMGconnect program will provide the “Safe Haven-It’s Up to You” Safe Environment training video , Pastoral and Technology Codes of Conduct concluding with a background check. Once the process is completed the sponsoring location will be notified of the applicants eligibility to volunteer.
Thank you for your commitment to ensure that all parishes and schools within the Diocese of Lexington are places of safety for all children and vulnerable adults.
