Communication Committee Minutes for November 17, 2014, 7 PM
Unapproved
Those in attendance were Jill Heink (minutes), Jenny Poole (newsletter), Joe Groves (web), Ron Wedding (Chair), Pat Johnson (Library)
The meeting opened at 7:00 PM with prayer.
There were no corrections to the minutes from September, 2014. Only a couple people attended the October meeting and no business was conducted, so no minutes were taken.
Website/Social Media – John presented notes from a webinar about Transforming Parish Communications by Scot Landry. The goal of the book is to help parishes adopt new media as a central tool of outreach and evangelization. John’s notes included the companion website (parishguidetonewmedia.com). The committee discussed several of the points as to what makes an effective parish website, what information should be posted on Facebook and/or tweeted, how a blog can focus online efforts, tec. John noted that in taking the evaluation tool included with the book, MQHR did OK, but has room for improvement. John has talked to Fr. Dan about forming a committee (core group of 4 to 6) for electronic media to implement specific suggestions from the book. Fr. Dan noted that the MQ School Facebook site should be coordinated within the parish efforts
CD Rack – no report; seems to be going OK
Info Center/Bulletin Board – The center is getting a little crowded again. As always, committee members are encouraged to swing by and tidy as needed
Outdoor Sign – going well
Library – Pat has Care Notes in for December, and is putting out copies for dealing with bereavement and loss over the holidays.
Suggestion Box –.there was a suggestion to add a playground. Evidently, the suggestor does not know about the playground behind the ELC.
Newsletter –The next newsletter deadline is December 5
LED Screen and A/V – the committee discussed ways the screen could be better utilized. John has reduced slides over the years to about 15, but thinks we need to reduce them even more and use less text. Ron noted that perhaps just slides of photos around the parish would capture people’s attention better.
Bulletin – no report
New Business – the Ambassador program has begun; a volunteer will be available after certain Masses to greet visitors or new parishioners or anyone wanting more information about MQ. We now have reserved visitor parking for first time visitors to the right of the front entrance.
Joe explained how the Fresh Grounds Scripture and Coffee Sessions are going (thumbs up!).

Huge list of Advent and then Christmas activities is coming up in the bulletin and will be posted on the web site
Next Meeting - The next meeting is scheduled for January 19, 2015, 7 PM, Room A/B
