In Attendance: John Mitchell, Reno Sartori, Joe Osteen, Ginger Osteen, Stephanie Beeken, Ron Hoctor, Jeanne Singh, Marge Mattingly, Laura Hack
1. The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm and the opening prayer included "Open My Eyes Lord".
2. John read the previous Sunday's Gospel, Mark 6:7-13, and asked the participants to reflect for a few moments and then to share how they saw the reading applying to our mission as evangelizers.
3. Two participants told about sharing their crucifix pins with people over the past two months. John also shared a story in regard to sharing the Word with someone, hut also deciding that sharing a pin would not have been prudent with the person.
4. John would like to see a bigger push for the license plates.
5. Laura asked for help, 1. identifying programs and, 2. their review, for programs that MQ can offer returning Catholics. Christ the King will not he offering Catholics Returning Home this fall, but will again in Jan/Feb. (Since our meeting, Tim Weinmann told Fr. Dan he would welcome speaking with any returning Catholics if we would like to refer them.) Even given that CTK usually offers the program twice a year. That still leaves over 30 weeks-a-year that we have nothing in place. Laura offered that with her experiences with returning Catholics, so far, there should be several of us training to meet with people and address their needs.
Along the same line, Kabby Akers' efforts with Build included a leadership training on Saturday, August 18th, 9am-1pm, in rooms c/d of the church. We have been invited to participate as training towards doing follow-up visits with some of the parishioners who are being contacted by Final Push volunteers. (As of August 1st; John Mitchell and Ginger and Joe Osteen have committed to attending. Please contact Laura asap if you also would like to attend.)
Laura also mentioned that we need to think ahead towards the month of October being the Synod for the New Evangelization and the kick-off of the Year of Faith. This is an excellent opportunity for us and we need to have concrete ideas ready to discuss at August 16's meeting. It was suggested that everyone peruse the Paulist Evangelism Ministries site for different ideas. (Since our meeting, the Paulists offered a webinar that is now free for all viewers and will explain more about the New Evangelization and how it ties in with the Year of Faith and Living the Eucharist programs: You do not need to have ever Signed up with PEM--just enter your name and email address]
6. Closing Prayer concluded with the intercessions for Evening Prayer.
