Unfinished Business and Updates
Continuing Business
Evangelization Committee
Lee McGrath spoke to the PPC members about a new outreach program targeting non- practicing Catholics. The program is called Catholics Returning Home, a six-week series of speakers helping to educate those who choose to participate about the Catholic faith. Opportunities for breakout sessions will be available after the talks. Christ the King successfully utilizes the program currently and would be happy to share materials with Mary Queen. The only cost ($200) would be a banner display for the church with start dates in December 2015.
Fr. Dan also brought up a new adult formation, ACTS, similarly related to the outreach program that will be offered soon at Mary Queen. ACTS (Adoration, Community, Theology, Service) is a weekend retreat designed to bring men and women of the parish closer to God and their community of brothers and sisters in faith. It is an effort to increase awareness of the needs of the Community with a better understanding of our Faith, by performing good works and serve those in need.
Parish Budget
Walter Leachman and John Tibe spoke about the budget surplus of $180,000. The finance council allocated $101,000 towards maintenance reserve with $80,000 allocated to general maintenance. Last year $78,000 was spent on general maintenance. Finance council is waiting for Fr. Dan to approve budget.
Old Business
Many Faces
Fr. Miguel spoke about the success of Many Faces. He also spoke about a survey that will be distributed at mass this weekend asking parishioners about their experiences in a multicultural parish. The survey will also be offered online. Beginning next month as a continuation of Many Faces, the parish will host Thursday Night Gatherings on the third Thursday of each month. Event begins at 7:00 pm with a bi-lingual mass, followed by fellowship of snacks and drinks.
Focus Groups for Mission Statement
Melissa Sloan (Alternate) spoke about scheduling of focus groups and distribution of surveys for the parish input concerning 2015-2018 MQHR Mission Statement. PPC members discussed options of alternate dates for above to the fall instead of summer (as was discussed at previous meetings) in hopes of better parish participation in lieu of expected reduced participation in relation to reduced summer mass attendance.
Father Dan suggested we delay a decision on movement of dates until more PPC members were in attendance.
John Tibe volunteered to lay out a proposed schedule to accommodate the suggested delay and still meet the given objective to complete the mission statement prior to end of fiscal year.
Next PPC Meeting
The next meeting is scheduled for June 28, 2015 at 7:00 pm at Mary Queen in the ELC building.
Closing Prayer and adjournment
Fr. Dan led us in a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned at 9:10 pm.
