The minutes of our previous meeting were approved. Unfinished Business Report from the Evangelization Task Force (Andrew M.)
Forty-four ideas were generated and documented by the Evangelization Task Force. These had been circulated among a subset of the Parish Pastoral Council but had not been seen by all members. Karen M. agreed to resend this information to all of the members of the council. Father Dan requested that each member send him comments and questions on pertaining to these 44 ideas no later than Monday June 2. Update on the Parish Budget (Walter L.)
Three changes to the parish budget were noted:
The mortgage for the priests’ house has been paid off
$78,000 was at it for maintenance
$20,000 of $200,000 have to be accounted for in a different way
The consensus of the council was that the budget be approved. New Business and Updates Time and Talent (Kevin L.)
There are still two more weeks before the deadline to have everyone contacted about their time and talent responses. To accommodate new volunteers, extra Virtus training sessions have been put in place. As of this report, 597 people have signed up for least something. This represents 416 families and 2046 ministries. Kevin L. will report again in two weeks and the complete report will be presented in our next meeting. Inter-Cultural Task Force (Fr. Miguel)
Mary Queen has the basic elements for good Inter-Cultural Communications… a supportive pastor. At this point the Task Force is trying to understand the concept of a “shared parish”. Father Miguel has met immediately Anglo leaders of our parish but still has yet to meet the Hispanic leaders. Parish Progress Report (Fr. Dan)
On the Ascension, as a continuation of our Easter activities, Father Dan will discuss New Life, Joy, and Hope that, from the cross and resurrection. He gave examples of New Life that has come through our sacrifices (BUILD, Rice Bowl, school successes, etc.) and listed other items, including:
An emphasis on sacrificial giving,
Combining our operating expenses and our long term expenses,
Through sacrifice, our expenses are down $50,000 per year,
Improvements to our facilities need to be made over the summer,
The Night Of Angels netted $37,000,
Evangelization means welcoming and a bequest from Jack Ping will be used to buy new carpeting for our gathering area,
Our “new” church building its 18 years old(!) And we’re being proactive in taking measures toward energy conservation,
We’re getting into emphasis on “Planned Giving”,
We have not borrowed any additional money this year, we’ve paid off the priests’ residence, and we have reduced our debt from $6.5 million to $6 million.
It was a general discussion of this approach and Father Dan invited additional feedback.
