Diocese Anniversary Celebration Mass:
Discussion on altering mass schedule for weekend to encourage parishioners’ attendance at a mass to be held at the Alltech Arena (Kentucky Horse Park) at 2:30 pm on June 2, 2013, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of our Diocese. Father Dan announced that all Diocese priests are to attend and that there will be no masses starting later than noon on June 2. This directive cuts two regularly-scheduled masses, including the only Hispanic mass in the area. It was noted that the first weekend of the month generally provides the highest offertory collection and that the church needs revenue. The general consensus was that we should add a Saturday evening mass for the Hispanic community and that there would be at least one and perhaps two masses before noon on June 2. Father Dan would investigate the changes made by other parishes and make a final scheduling determination.
ELC usage policies and procedures:
The PPC reviewed and discussed the policies and procedures for parish sponsored and non-parish sponsored usage of the ELC. Everyone agreed and appreciated that much thought and work had gone into the recommended policies and procedures, and that other than some identification and communication as to what events, groups, etc. are “parish sponsored”, the PPC recommended adoption of the proposed usage policies and procedures of the ELC.
Pre-paid Tuition Task Force:
There was discussion on the 2012 Task Force 3D’s continuation on its objective to finalize and implement a pre-paid tuition program as recommended by the PPC at its last meeting (Jan. 10, 2013). Upon further consideration by Father Dan with input from those instrumental to the task force’s objective, it was recommended that existing committees from the Parish Financial Council, School Finance Council and School Board could finalize and implement the objective most efficiently. The PPC unanimously agreed that Task Force 3d completed its task and that any further work on the prepaid tuition program would be undertaken by existing councils and committees.
Parish input on five-year forecast.
The PPC was presented with a proposed bulletin insert and a survey designed to involve the parish at large into discussions of what can be done to raise revenue and/or decrease expenses at MQHR. Discussion was held regarding the use of the MQHR website, written surveys and online surveys to elicit parishioners input. The general consensus was that the insert and survey should be limited to only seeking parishioners’ input. Steve agreed to edit the insert and survey and submit those to the PPC via email.
Next we discussed the logistics of introducing the survey to the parish. A consensus was reached that the survey should be introduced at the beginning of all masses on February 9 and 10 (amending our earlier recommendation to introduce the survey one week earlier) and that written survey questions would be placed in the pews on that weekend. Phil agreed to introduce the surveys at the beginning of Vigil mass and the Sunday morning masses on that weekend; and Vincente agreed to introduce the survey at the 12:30 Hispanic mass on Feb. 10. The Priest or Deacon will make another announcement after the Prayers of the Faithful with the collection. Bill Rood and Bill Drane agreed to see to it that surveys and pencils were in the pews (including a Spanish translation for the Hispanic mass). Norma agreed to assist with the translation.
